Vectorworks, Photoshop | 2023 | Quadramics Theater Company

Chicago

I designed this set to blend the industrial boom of the 1920s with the theatricality of vaudeville. The shiny red curtains and rounded archways resemble a puppet theater, contrasting strict parallel lines in the metallic bar handrails. The show began 1 month after the end of a Chicago parody musical, so I designed pieces like the cell bar handrails that could be recycled for use in both shows, altered by a embellishments like the the rounded curtains and marquee lights.

Floorplan in Vectorworks.

Early Sketching and Ideation

In the early stages of the process, I hand sketched ideas in Photoshop to be in conversation with the director and other technical designers. I then created a physical model in Vectorworks and a physical model, iterating based on feedback.
